Boston Legal: Season Four

All Rise for the Honourable 4th Season
In my opinion this is one of the best seasons of Boston Legal. I am really disappointed however that the fifth will apparently be it's last.
Shatner continues to deliver a top notch character. One of the highlights of the season and in my opinion the best episode when Denny and Alan go before the Supreme Court, what an excellent episode!!
I am really looking forward to season 5 and rewatching the whole season from the start.

Best Series on TV
I love this show and will be very sad to see it end this year. The relationship between Shatner and Spader is wonderful. My father was in big business and there are so many 'deja vu' moments during this show which makes it so real to me. I am in Orlando and my Aunt lived in Vancouver. We would both watch it and the following evening I would call her and we would talk about the show and laugh for hours. It was the best time of the week. I'll miss that but even more when the show is over. Shatner has proven that you can get away from a previous character (Star Trek) and be really damn funny. I look forward to watching it all over again in my 'older' age.

Better Than I had Hoped
I was heading to Kuwait when this season started, so I only got to see the second episode before I left, and I was freaked out that Brad Chase was the A.D.A. now, Paul Lewiston was gone, and replaced by Carl Sack played by John Larroquette. So I honestly wasn't planning on buying this right away. But being over here, in the Army with nothing really to do except go to work, and pretend I'm not here, I picked it up. Well I really couldn't resist because William Shatner is my biggest hero, and I love the character of Denny Crane.

Watching this season from the beginning to end I realized this show was a lot better than I had expected, in fact better than season three, which kind of left me wanting a little bit more. Season Four brings back a lot of characters and stories from past seasons, more so from season two; witch is my favorite season over all.

I was going to give this set a four star, because a few of the episodes it was a little hard to suspend disbelief,...

2003 NCAA Championship Syracuse vs. Kansas

Boeheim Gets His Title
2003 was Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim's third trip to the NCAA title game. Twice before he came up short. But against Kansas thanks to super freshman Carmelo Anthony and a timely last second block from sophomore Hakim Warrick on Michael Lee, Syracuse were finally crowned national champs leaving another perinnial bridesmaid Roy Williams having to wait two more years before he captured an NCAA title. This dvd captures the complete and exciting game and is a must own for all Syracuse fans.

Arctic Son

Going Home
A native youth is getting into trouble in Seattle and his mother sends him to live with his father, who lives on the Old Crow Reservation in a cabin. The only entertainment is, the father plays the harmonica and sings. He also catches huge fish, hunts game, goes snowmobiling to get around, and basically lives off the land in a rustic Northwestern climate. One sees the son go through a gradual transformation. There is not much in terms of words being exchanged between them. The father is pretty stoic, but you can sense the love and warmth he feels toward his son as he teaches him the ways of his life. Wordless is the cultural nuances that the father is conveying to his son through his actions. The son, initially with hollow look in his eyes, builds energy, he follows along with his father, he learns the ways, he gets some direction, maybe he understands his father and himself better. The film shows the son returning to visit his mother and getting back into the city life ways,...

TEDIUM (notice the upper-case letters)!
A biracial Inuit is getting into drugs and alcohol in his mother's town, so he is sent to his Inuit father's small town in the Yukon. This documentary is meant to show the iconic tales of overcoming addiction and father-son bonding. Unfortunately, it is so boring and dull. Watching this tested my patience in so many painful ways.
I'm an African American and in my father's generation young folk who were getting into the city's bad habits were often sent to their grandparents' homes down south. I have a friend whose sister was sent to India for the same reason. Thus, I understand how moving to a "slower" environment is a tool that families of many cultures employ. Still, this work was painfully dull.
Both the father and the son speak in mumbly, monotone voices. Sometimes their words appear on the screen, but most times they do not. There's an old saying: "Idleness is the devil's tool." There is much addiction in rural or non-busy locales. This scene could drive a...

2000 NCAA Championship Michigan St. vs. Florida

2000 season relived
I can still remember seeing Mateen Cleaves, AJ Granger & Morris Peterson when they played as true freshmen @ MSU in 1996. Cleaves was still recovering from a back injury he sustained in a car accident. As a sidenote, the car crash indirectly led to the scandal that was disinterred @ the men's basketball program of arch-rival U-M Cleaves was overweight and slow and I had serious doubts that he would ever live up to the hype that he had in coming to Michigan State.

Peterson had some obvious offensive flash, but was a slacker on defense. Granger was a good shooter, but was a turn-style on defense. When I recall those days during their freshman years, I NEVER would have guessed that their final game wearing the Green & White would be in the National Championship game.

Their sophomore year was when MSU men's basketball became relevant to the National scene. Starting with an unexpected demolition of Purdue @ Mackey Arena, MSU began a surge that has continued...

Caillou: Caillou's Winter Wonders

Nice!
This dvd is great. My son is a huge Caillou fan and he saw all the episodes in this dvd but the great thing is those annoying puppets are not there, just nonstop Caillou. Some parts of this dvd are also taken from the Caillou holiday movie. One more dvd for the collection!

No puppets and lots of holiday fun!
A solid Caillou video that keeps my daughter entertained for as long as I let her watch it. There are no puppets, so I don't need to be nearby to skip the skits and continue to Caillou cartoons.

Great entertainment
I gave this to my 3 1/2 year old son for Christmas in 2008 and he loves watching it. He started belting out "Dreidl dreidl dreidl" one day and I thought he had learned it from preschool, but no, from the Caillou holiday party segment. The songs about "practice makes perfect" and "make each day special" are great-to the point and catchy. My 19 month-old twins also love Caillou because of this DVD. I love the fact that there are several individual stories about winter--all nice little narratives, and Caillou is shown imagining all kinds of adventures while going about daily life. It really captures a child's imagination.

Family Name

My Commentary Is Biased, But Still...It's Great
This is a remarkable detective/genealogical story, and an engrossing philosophical meditation on race, and the things (like roots) that can link seemingly diverse people. I first saw this when it ran on PBS in 1998, and was pretty amazed - about halfway through - to see some cousins of my dad's. I was completely blown away. A wonderful wonderful film.

Great Documentary!!!
I've always wanted to know more about my family. This documentary was masterfully made and elegant in its realism. If you are an Alston (or Allston/Alstone) you NEED to have this in your collection, be you Black or White. BUY IT!!!!

Also, my video came early, and who can complain about that!?!?! BUY THE DOCUMENTARY!!!!

My family!
I purchased this for my husband due to his last name; We have watched this several times with other family members. It was great learning more about his family.

Sex and the City - The Movie (Full Screen Edition)

Sex and the City, 2-Disc Special Edition on DVD!
I was initially against a continuation of the runaway hit HBO series, Sex and the City - The Complete Series (Collector's Giftset) I felt that the season finale was perfection and any other stories to be told would only spoil it. Once the movie started though, I was drawn in and it felt great to see these "familiar" friends again: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis). Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) decide to tie the knot, and the movie revolves around how their relationship takes the next step. Meanwhile, Miranda and Steve are dealing with Miranda neglecting their relationship. Samantha has become an L.A. housewife and is none too happy about continually playing second-fiddle to Smith. Charlotte...well, she is just living a perfect life with adopted daughter and husband Harry. The movie continues the vision of the series: insightful, witty,...

What a great fantasy!!
If I had known the series was as enjoyable as the movie, I would never have missed a single episode, but that's the beauty of a favorite series on DVD. "Sex and the City--The Movie" was such a fabulous fantasy with such a great ending that I must see the series now.

Four women who actually care about each other--now there's a new concept, but they actually do, genuinely, sincerely, and apparently for all time. Other reviewers have called the wedding dress a fifth character; some say New York or Manhattan itself. I say the fifth character has to be all those clothes Carrie wears, each dress costing hundreds, I'm sure. As a writer, she could afford such clothes? Wow.

However, anyone with eyes must include Chris Noth's Big character. He is such a hunk! A major element that stands out for me in this movie is the respectful attitudes Carrie and Big show for each other. They are attentive, caring, and considerate (except for --well, I best not say). Anyone can make a...

*F*A*N*S of The Show Will Still Enjoy SATCTM!
SEX AND THE CITY THE MOVIE SPECIAL EDITION won't satisfy all of the fans of the show. You either love it or hate it. Sure the movie had its pitfalls like the "will Big & Carrie marry or is this the final break-up?" etc., but for the most part it gives us fans one last hurrah. I guess the movie could be seen as the cherry on top of an already luscious and decadent sundae.

Did we need the movie? Probably not, but I'm glad the powers that be decided to make it. And just like that cherry, the movie is just a lovely garnish that topped off a really wonderful television series.

Here's what's on the SATCTM DVD Sp. Ed.:

DVD #1
***Extended Version of the movie--(Run Time 151 mins)--I think the extended scenes show Carrie, Charlotte, Harry and Lily on Halloween (I don't remember that scene in the movie)

***Commentary By Director/Writer Michael Patrick King

DVD #2
***Digital Copy of the Movie--To play on computer/ipods etc., w/out...
