1998 NCAA Championship Kentucky vs. Utah

Great Revisit!
I loved reliving this game and remembering how it felt to watch those underdog, scrapping guys take the championship. I appreciated the extra minutes surrounding the game that were included in this DVD. Kudos to Tubby! He may be the only coach in the country who could have done it with this group of players.

Seoul Raiders

Great Sequel
I was a fan of Tokyo Raiders, and was quite eager for a sequel, but didn't think there would be one. I was wrong on this count. I was also wrong that it would not be the kind of sequel that is much better than the original.

Like Tokyo Raiders, SEOUL RAIDERS has a plot that makes about as much sense as that of MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE. Something to do with Owen lee (Richie Jen)an American-born Chinese CIA agent who steals some counterfeit money plates and flees to Seoul, Korea, and this necessitates that Wushu master/ secret agentLam (Tony Leung) join forces with porfessional thief/babe J.J. (Shu Qi)call upon his three Korean angels (Choi Yeo-Jin, Cho Soo-Hyn, and Cho Han-Na)to get the plates back.

Like any Jackie Chan movie, SEOUL RAIDERS is made to be a comedy-dominated martial arts action flick, and there are several entertaining fights. The opening fight with Tony Leung and Shu Qi playing keep-away with some evil-doers statr off the movie with a bang. One very short...

Great Movie!!!
This movie was great! I get to watch movies at work. This movie has quite a few funny moments. This movie passed the time quite well, I borrowed this movie from my library and it was the best movie I have seen in a month! You would be a fool not to at least watch it once! It was so good I added it to my wish list, and when I get paid I am TOTALLY BUYING THIS MOVIE!!! The story was great, it kept me interested and would not let go until it ended! The move is only in cantonese and mandarin audio, but it has english subtitles, but is well worth it!!

Entertaining film
It's a Chinese action film that of course seems as a fantasy. However, it's entertaining and girls are pretty good looking to watch.

Murder, Spies & Voting Lies (the Clint Curtis story)

Sopranos meets the White House
After watching this excellent documentary, which cleverly unfolds like a mystery novel, I wondered if Ms. Sharaf (director) had ever been challenged by the Bush administration to keep it hush-hush. They don't like this kind of exposure. I'm thrilled she had the guts to put it on film. You can see how nervous Clint Curtis is during his interviews. It's no wonder the truth about the murder has never come out of the closet. Just as it's no wonder they had to rig the voting system to get Bush into office. Our government has been so corrupt for too long! Watch this movie!

Real Life Taut Political Thriller
This highly recommended documentary is a riveting yet detailed account of how voting fraud hijacked democracy. Watching it, we were slackjawed in disbelief, but the journalism carefully, transparently, and thoroughly built an unshirkable and undeniable case. This documentary is so well crafted by its filmmakers, it is able to deliver on its promise to tell a story of Murder, Spies, and Voting Lies. Bravo! A tour de force! MK

A Courageous Hero
Clint Curtis , Brad Freidman and Patty Scharaf are national heros to whom we owe a debit of gratitude. Clint and Brad worked for the last 8 yrs to make the national media admit and bring attention to the fact that vote rigging software stole America and our democracy. Ms Sharaf's daring and courageous documentary reveals the truth of what happened to our country. Clint, Brad and Ms Sharaf's determination and dedication to get the truth out worked. This election cycle, Lou Dobbs among many other radio and TV hosts, discussed the dangers of electronic voting machines and the possibility that the election could be stolen once again. With so many people paying attention, the 2008 Presidential election was the fairest election in over 8 years. Congratulations to all three heros who helped to return our democracy. M Ward

Gangland: The Complete Season One

Gangland, a Deviant Culture in Living Color Including Blood
"Gangland: The Complete Season One (2007)", 4 disc set, A&E Home Video, Dist. by NEWVIDEO. ISBN 1-4229-0949-2. English, Color, 611 min.

This 4 disc DVD set provides more than 611 min. (extras)of over 10 hrs. of color video, mostly excellent quality footage, with narrated soundtrack and much original recordings of gang members, police and victims interacting. Each disc contains 3 to 4 topics dealing with Gangland culture and these include American Gangster Harlem, You Rat-You Die (MS-13), Mexican Mafia & LA County, Hells Angels, Race Wars (Latino vs Afro-American, Kings of New York, Chicago's Black P. Stones, Skinheads, Chicago's Ganster City, La Nuestra (Blood In-Blood Out), Basic Training (USAF skills), Blood Oath (Racism), Root of All Evil (100,000 member MS-13 in America).

Overall, this compendium of gangland footage is especially meaningful if you've had basic introduction into the culture of gangs via more recent publications as "A World of Gangs", The...

Sort of like passing by a car wreck, you have to look
The series is interesting in that it shows a life that most viewers have little idea about. The interviews with involved members, both inside and outside of prison paints a grim picture of the lifestyle that is tough to live but easy to glamorize.

When I watched the first season DVDs over a weekend I really began to notice the repeated use of some stock footage and audio. I realize that in a "documentary" style often they have to stretch still photos into moving images and use sound effects to liven things up but I think some are overused. I don't remember it being bothersome when episodes are watched individually over a longer period of time however so depending on your viewing habits you might not be bothered.

Many of the gangs are simply copy-cats of each other and therefore some of the episodes became rather blahh as a result. I would have rather had an episode or two on generic gang topics like how they acquire weapons and drugs to perhaps tags and...

The human-garbage in your neighborhood...
I saw some episodes of this on The History Channel...
Then I found the whole series on DVD.

...This is a collection of short documentaries featuring all manner of criminal gangs that infect OUR NATION like a foul disease. The presentation is a bit flambouyant and sensational, but its all based on ACTUAL EVENTS in the news. There is a plentiful array of actual film of these dregs, ...mostly surveillance-camera or police-footage, ...or the even film taken from the gangs as evidence. Yes, they are stupid enough to film their own crimes!

I follow the news rather closely, wherever I've lived, and the SAME type of people stand out REPEATEDLY, week after week. Its no longer "shocking", in regard to the particularly vile crimes they commit, but its STILL outrageous. Most people tend to ignore it, ...and thats stupid. Be aware of whats moving into YOUR neighborhood.

In general, the "people" featured here are just tattoo-encrusted ghetto-garbage and...

1990 NCAA Championship UNLV vs. Duke

Missing a part of the game
This video is missing a small part of the 2nd half. I was very disappointed because this was the best beat down in the history of the final game.

Worth it for Runnin' Reb fans
During the game portion, their are no (really, NO!) ccmmercials and few breaks. The game shows every play, but not in a rushed way. It is a quality presentation.

Duke was overmatched that night. They were young; their time would come (many more times).

UNLV was loaded with talent and experience: In the 1991 NBA draft, Larry Johnson was the #1 overall; Stacey Augmon #9 overall; Greg Anthony #12 overall, and George Ackles went in the second round. That's quite a testament to the talent on that team. Hunt, a super college guard, was not drafted, but he was the MVP of the Finals that year.

The next 2 years the won the NCAA Championship, and Coach Mike Krzyzewski now has 4 titles to Jerry Tarkanian's 1 title.

Duke never lead in this game, and UNLV put on quite a show.

That UNLV team is still one of my favorite teams to ever win the title.

Shrek the Third [Blu-ray]

Third Time's Still Pretty Charming
"Shrek The Third" might lack the originality of the original film, but it's still a very good movie. Shrek is once again put into an uncomfortable position, except this time around he isn't trying to win Fiona's heart or impress her parents. This time he's been chosen to replace his father-in-law as the king of Far Far Away. He quickly finds out that there is one other potential heir to the throne called Arthur. Once he figures out where Arthur is located, Shrek, Donkey, and Puss set out to find the boy and convince him that he should be king. Before leaving, however, Shrek is weighed down with more pressure when he finds out that he'll soon be a dad. While Shrek's away, Charming gathers up all of fairytale-dom's meanest villains (including Captain Hook and the Wicked Witch from "Snow White") and stages a successful coup to become ruler of Far Far Away. Using Fiona and her friends as bait, Charming awaits Shrek's return in order to finish him off and become the rightful...

a good film--but not great and not as good as the first two were (three and one half stars)
Shrek The Third is a good movie with incredible animation. I marvel at that animation! However, the plot is just average and it didn't really hold my attention the way I hoped it would. I think after this Dreamworks needs to move on to new develop new characters in new films; but only time will tell if Dreamworks wants to milk this theme yet again. The voiceovers are very well done and the DVD has a plethora of extras.

When the action begins, Shrek (Mike Myers) and his wife Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) are filling in for the ailing King Harold (John Cleese). Unfortunately, King Harold passes away and, with his dying wish, names Shrek as the rightful heir to the throne. This doesn't sit too well with Shrek who has been suffering from public relations embarrassment to public relations embarrassment as he launches ships with such strength that the ship blows a hole and sinks--and more. King Harold says, just before he dies, that the only other heir to the throne would be a...

worst sequal ever
First off - Rent this movie before you buy.
It is not like 1 or 2. Number 3 is not even funny. I swear they just made this movie for the heck of it without putting any effort into making it. One part which is comfusing is that fiona is pregnant and she is fighing bad guys. What? Pregnant people dont do that. And the fact that when the king died all they said was "he is dead". They could have made it funny by saying "he croaked". Anyway this is all I have to say. I hope you like this movie more than I did. I doubt you will like it more than I did.

Boston Legal: Season Four

All Rise for the Honourable 4th Season
In my opinion this is one of the best seasons of Boston Legal. I am really disappointed however that the fifth will apparently be it's last.
Shatner continues to deliver a top notch character. One of the highlights of the season and in my opinion the best episode when Denny and Alan go before the Supreme Court, what an excellent episode!!
I am really looking forward to season 5 and rewatching the whole season from the start.

Best Series on TV
I love this show and will be very sad to see it end this year. The relationship between Shatner and Spader is wonderful. My father was in big business and there are so many 'deja vu' moments during this show which makes it so real to me. I am in Orlando and my Aunt lived in Vancouver. We would both watch it and the following evening I would call her and we would talk about the show and laugh for hours. It was the best time of the week. I'll miss that but even more when the show is over. Shatner has proven that you can get away from a previous character (Star Trek) and be really damn funny. I look forward to watching it all over again in my 'older' age.

Better Than I had Hoped
I was heading to Kuwait when this season started, so I only got to see the second episode before I left, and I was freaked out that Brad Chase was the A.D.A. now, Paul Lewiston was gone, and replaced by Carl Sack played by John Larroquette. So I honestly wasn't planning on buying this right away. But being over here, in the Army with nothing really to do except go to work, and pretend I'm not here, I picked it up. Well I really couldn't resist because William Shatner is my biggest hero, and I love the character of Denny Crane.

Watching this season from the beginning to end I realized this show was a lot better than I had expected, in fact better than season three, which kind of left me wanting a little bit more. Season Four brings back a lot of characters and stories from past seasons, more so from season two; witch is my favorite season over all.

I was going to give this set a four star, because a few of the episodes it was a little hard to suspend disbelief,...

Arctic Son

Going Home
A native youth is getting into trouble in Seattle and his mother sends him to live with his father, who lives on the Old Crow Reservation in a cabin. The only entertainment is, the father plays the harmonica and sings. He also catches huge fish, hunts game, goes snowmobiling to get around, and basically lives off the land in a rustic Northwestern climate. One sees the son go through a gradual transformation. There is not much in terms of words being exchanged between them. The father is pretty stoic, but you can sense the love and warmth he feels toward his son as he teaches him the ways of his life. Wordless is the cultural nuances that the father is conveying to his son through his actions. The son, initially with hollow look in his eyes, builds energy, he follows along with his father, he learns the ways, he gets some direction, maybe he understands his father and himself better. The film shows the son returning to visit his mother and getting back into the city life ways,...

TEDIUM (notice the upper-case letters)!
A biracial Inuit is getting into drugs and alcohol in his mother's town, so he is sent to his Inuit father's small town in the Yukon. This documentary is meant to show the iconic tales of overcoming addiction and father-son bonding. Unfortunately, it is so boring and dull. Watching this tested my patience in so many painful ways.
I'm an African American and in my father's generation young folk who were getting into the city's bad habits were often sent to their grandparents' homes down south. I have a friend whose sister was sent to India for the same reason. Thus, I understand how moving to a "slower" environment is a tool that families of many cultures employ. Still, this work was painfully dull.
Both the father and the son speak in mumbly, monotone voices. Sometimes their words appear on the screen, but most times they do not. There's an old saying: "Idleness is the devil's tool." There is much addiction in rural or non-busy locales. This scene could drive a...

2000 NCAA Championship Michigan St. vs. Florida

2000 season relived
I can still remember seeing Mateen Cleaves, AJ Granger & Morris Peterson when they played as true freshmen @ MSU in 1996. Cleaves was still recovering from a back injury he sustained in a car accident. As a sidenote, the car crash indirectly led to the scandal that was disinterred @ the men's basketball program of arch-rival U-M Cleaves was overweight and slow and I had serious doubts that he would ever live up to the hype that he had in coming to Michigan State.

Peterson had some obvious offensive flash, but was a slacker on defense. Granger was a good shooter, but was a turn-style on defense. When I recall those days during their freshman years, I NEVER would have guessed that their final game wearing the Green & White would be in the National Championship game.

Their sophomore year was when MSU men's basketball became relevant to the National scene. Starting with an unexpected demolition of Purdue @ Mackey Arena, MSU began a surge that has continued...

Caillou: Caillou's Winter Wonders

Nice!
This dvd is great. My son is a huge Caillou fan and he saw all the episodes in this dvd but the great thing is those annoying puppets are not there, just nonstop Caillou. Some parts of this dvd are also taken from the Caillou holiday movie. One more dvd for the collection!

No puppets and lots of holiday fun!
A solid Caillou video that keeps my daughter entertained for as long as I let her watch it. There are no puppets, so I don't need to be nearby to skip the skits and continue to Caillou cartoons.

Great entertainment
I gave this to my 3 1/2 year old son for Christmas in 2008 and he loves watching it. He started belting out "Dreidl dreidl dreidl" one day and I thought he had learned it from preschool, but no, from the Caillou holiday party segment. The songs about "practice makes perfect" and "make each day special" are great-to the point and catchy. My 19 month-old twins also love Caillou because of this DVD. I love the fact that there are several individual stories about winter--all nice little narratives, and Caillou is shown imagining all kinds of adventures while going about daily life. It really captures a child's imagination.

Family Name

My Commentary Is Biased, But Still...It's Great
This is a remarkable detective/genealogical story, and an engrossing philosophical meditation on race, and the things (like roots) that can link seemingly diverse people. I first saw this when it ran on PBS in 1998, and was pretty amazed - about halfway through - to see some cousins of my dad's. I was completely blown away. A wonderful wonderful film.

Great Documentary!!!
I've always wanted to know more about my family. This documentary was masterfully made and elegant in its realism. If you are an Alston (or Allston/Alstone) you NEED to have this in your collection, be you Black or White. BUY IT!!!!

Also, my video came early, and who can complain about that!?!?! BUY THE DOCUMENTARY!!!!

My family!
I purchased this for my husband due to his last name; We have watched this several times with other family members. It was great learning more about his family.

Sex and the City - The Movie (Full Screen Edition)

Sex and the City, 2-Disc Special Edition on DVD!
I was initially against a continuation of the runaway hit HBO series, Sex and the City - The Complete Series (Collector's Giftset) I felt that the season finale was perfection and any other stories to be told would only spoil it. Once the movie started though, I was drawn in and it felt great to see these "familiar" friends again: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis). Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) decide to tie the knot, and the movie revolves around how their relationship takes the next step. Meanwhile, Miranda and Steve are dealing with Miranda neglecting their relationship. Samantha has become an L.A. housewife and is none too happy about continually playing second-fiddle to Smith. Charlotte...well, she is just living a perfect life with adopted daughter and husband Harry. The movie continues the vision of the series: insightful, witty,...

What a great fantasy!!
If I had known the series was as enjoyable as the movie, I would never have missed a single episode, but that's the beauty of a favorite series on DVD. "Sex and the City--The Movie" was such a fabulous fantasy with such a great ending that I must see the series now.

Four women who actually care about each other--now there's a new concept, but they actually do, genuinely, sincerely, and apparently for all time. Other reviewers have called the wedding dress a fifth character; some say New York or Manhattan itself. I say the fifth character has to be all those clothes Carrie wears, each dress costing hundreds, I'm sure. As a writer, she could afford such clothes? Wow.

However, anyone with eyes must include Chris Noth's Big character. He is such a hunk! A major element that stands out for me in this movie is the respectful attitudes Carrie and Big show for each other. They are attentive, caring, and considerate (except for --well, I best not say). Anyone can make a...

*F*A*N*S of The Show Will Still Enjoy SATCTM!
SEX AND THE CITY THE MOVIE SPECIAL EDITION won't satisfy all of the fans of the show. You either love it or hate it. Sure the movie had its pitfalls like the "will Big & Carrie marry or is this the final break-up?" etc., but for the most part it gives us fans one last hurrah. I guess the movie could be seen as the cherry on top of an already luscious and decadent sundae.

Did we need the movie? Probably not, but I'm glad the powers that be decided to make it. And just like that cherry, the movie is just a lovely garnish that topped off a really wonderful television series.

The Godfather Part III - The Coppola Restoration

Please, No Godfather IV
I have seen this film several times, all the way through or in parts. Frankly, I have mixed emotions about it because, when discussing it, I want to be fair and focus on it as a discrete film, judging it on its own terms; however, for me at least, that is impossible because it is the third of three Godfather films and its two predecessors are masterpieces. I cannot exclude vivid memories of scenes and even comments from films I first saw 18 and then 14 years before seeing this one for the first time in 1990. OK, that's my challenge. I finally decided to try to rate it on its own terms, hence the Three Stars. What it has going for it includes Pacino's talent, several plausible conflicts, brilliant cinematography, and a tone of melancholy which is consistent throughout the narrative. After years of broken promises to wife Kay (Diane Keaton), Michael has almost completed a process by which to extricate himself and his family from organized crime. However, his marriage has ended, mortal...

WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT.
The first time I saw it, I felt disappointed. Several viewings later, I thought it wasn't so bad -not as good as the first two, but not bad. Last night I saw the trilogy non-stop, and yes, it is THAT bad. Here's what's wrong with it:

1.- Tom Hagen. He's crucial and he's missing. There's no Godfather III without him. And if Paramount didn't want to pay Robert Duvall whatever he wanted to reprise his role, they should quit show business altogether. Instead we get George Hamilton! What were they thinking, the penny-pincher idiots!

2.- Michael Corleone. Not the same guy. Sure, Al Pacino plays him, but unfortunately, he forgot everything about the character. Michael Corelone doesn't "love public speech"; he's a soft spoken, cold blooded, silent maniac who feels a fish out of water at weddings, first communions, baptisms, New Year's Eve, anything except funerals. A guy that seldom talks and never reveals his emotions. Here, he's a gregarious and bombastic party guy who...

A Classic -- like Parts I and II
Some critics complain that Sofia Coppola was inexperienced for such a big role. I disagree. Ms. Coppola's inexperience helped her play the character of Mary more convincingly. While it is true she sometimes seemed rather "valley girl," this shouldn't be surprising. Michael did his best to shelter her from the harsh realities of life in the Corleone Family, and the upbringing and guidance from her father came across in her portrayal of Mary.

Another criticism is Michael's quest for redemption... that such a notion does not square with the character in Parts I and II. Again, I disagree. Recall Michael wanted nothing to do with the Family Business in Part I. His father had hopes he might become "Senator Corleone... Governor Corleone," but this was not to be. Michael had to step in for the sake of his family. This necessity does not change the fact that at one time he was a good son, who simply wanted to become a math professor, marry, and have a...

iCarly: Season One, Vol. 1

Excellent teen entertainment
As one reviewer admitted his age, I'll do the same and say I am a 48 year-old father of two teenagers that genuinely believes this is some of the best entertainment on TV right now. Light-hearted and usually very funny humor, no nasty/vulgar language, no sexual innuendo, and disrespect for adults is generally limited to people that deserve it (Miss Briggs, Lewbert, Mr. Howard, etc.) as opposed to adults in general. There is usually a simple but valuable lesson involved and the interplay between the kids seems genuine and not forced in any way. The chemistry of the actors is a superb mix of personalities and each one brings a unique flavor to the show. The feisty interplay between Freddy and Sam with Carly attempting unsuccessfully to be arbitrator is a big part of the charm. Another positive factor is that no two episodes use the same rhetoric. Miranda Cosgrove is a very talented young lady and her future seems bright indeed. It will be interesting to see what season 2 brings...

All Around Great Show!

The True Story of Che Guevara

Good Balanced Documentary
Just got done watching this documentary. I thought it was pretty good. It was long enough to cover the subject pretty well and the part that I like the most is that it was balanced in its view of the subject. Che' was portrayed as both an icon and a savior and also as a murderer and fanatic. They had lots of interviews with people who were involved, who knew him and who both loved and hated him. Also a lot of good footage and pictures of the man. If you are interested in the subject or even if you aren't I think you will find the documentary interesting and informative.

Balanced and unbiased
This is truly a wonderful, insightful documentary. Che was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, intellectual, guerrilla leader, diplomat, military theorist, and major figure of the Cuban Revolution. I know all the negative reviews come from Cuban-Americans who's famalies fled Cuba in fear of having to be equal with Afro-Cubans, God forbid. If you need proof look at the famalies who fled during the revolution, white, wealthy Cubans who could not imagine sharing their wealth with Cubans of color. The U.S.-backed Cuban general, President and dictator Fulgencio Batista was corrupt and sold out his country along with other wealthy Cuban famalies to the highest bidder. Cuba was being raped by US corporations and the Mafia while Batista and his wealthy friends turned a blind eye so they could line their pockets with dirty money, money being made on the backs of the poor Cuban people. "Brothels flourished. A major industry grew up around them: Government officials received...

neo Doc
Its a good documentary in the fact that it brings to light other people in the revolution, and it has this kind of new way of presenting the man, with lots of hard guitar in the background to make him seem "radical" i guess. Jon Anderson the author of one of the best bio's on him is interviewed many times, also there are interviews with American soldiers who fought in the revolution, which is very interesting to get to see them. Overall it is one of the better documentaries.

Alvin and the Chipmunks - Alvin's Thanksgiving Celebration

Parents: This is a must-see for your little ones
This film teaches important lessons to children in a gentle and very entertaining way. Lesson One: Discipline is important to children. Lesson Two: Anything in excess, even fun, can ruin your life. Lesson Three: The entertainment industry, although glamorous, can be harmful. Stable family life is more important. And dads are important role models for young sons. Alvin and his companions Simon and Theodore learn these lessons from their surrogate father Dave and from the hard knocks they endure as they leave Dave and rise to recording stardom. Seldom have I seen such an entertaining film spell out such excellent values for young children. In terms of pure fun, the chipmunks are believable and so precious they can make you cry. Jason Lee is outstanding as the caring "dad", Dave. The music is wonderful: great remixes of "Witch Doctor" and the Chipmunks Christmas song. Don't listen to the critics on this one. It is amazing. See this with your little ones and talk to them about the lessons...

Fun for kids of all ages
An interesting cross-section of people attended the film at the same time my husband and I did. There was a group of college kids, parents with children, and Tony and I, who were going to see how faithfully a contemporary film translated a childhood cartoon hero.

From the laughter, booing, and general merriment, I can tell you we were all having an excellent time. This definitely was not a performance that someone who likes to view films in quiet would have enjoyed.

The story: David Seville (Jason Lee) is an advertising exec with dreams of becoming a songwriter. He's got an 'in' with old college chum, Ian (David Cross), who is an exec with Jett Records, but still can't produce anything that anyone would want to sing.

It looks like David's never going to be able to quit his day job until three chipmunks get their pine tree home chopped down and taken to the lobby of Jett Records office building. They stowaway in a basket of muffins David's swiped...

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang, Walla walla, bing bang
"I Told The Witch Doctor You Didn't Love Me True
I Told The Witch Doctor You Didn't Love Me Nice"

("Witch Doctor")

Three CGI chipmunks carry this movie on their narrow little shoulders, and that's a very good thing, seeing that the plot is nothing special and neither are the performances of the human actors.

Unceremoniously expelled from their tree home, the chipmunks are having a very bad day, until they show their stuff to Dave (Jason Lee), a songwriter who's told to quit his day job.

What happens next is basically what you'd expect when you let three forest critters occupy your living space, as well as the inevitable series of misunderstandings that occur in mixed species family groups.

David Cross plays Ian Hawke, the hammy heavy. He's a music producer who sees dollar signs with each helium-inspired note, and has great plans for the talented trio which may or may not include dopey Dave.

The music will send...

History of the Joke with Lewis Black

Funny, but there shouldn't be "beeping" on DVD's
If you didn't see this show on the History channel it is worth it to pick it up on DVD. You have some of the best comedians around (and one amateur one) just telling jokes and discussing the ins and outs of comedy. The highlight of the DVD now seems to be the interview between Lewis Black and George Carlin. Listening to Carlin discuss comedy is like listening to Beethoven talk about music.

My only complaint that makes this 4-stars instead of 5 is the fact that the DVD is censored. I understand beeping out foul language when it's on TV, but if I'm paying $25 for the DVD, I'd kinda like to hear the "F" word.

Even with the censored language it is still a DVD worth getting, and you will laugh, over and over again even with multiple viewings. The topics range from PG-rated to X-rated, so please be aware that it is not family friendly. But hell, just put the kids to bed, the DVD is funny as hell.

hilarious and informative
Full of intelligent discussion about the fundamentals of comedy from those who know it best. A multitude of great comedians weigh in, including the late George Carlin. Someone said something to this effect in an earlier review, but I absolutely agree: listening to Carlin discuss comedy is like getting a music theory class from Beethoven. Anyway, throughout, Lewis Black serves as a great interviewer, and it's always heartwarming to watch Black (a comedy heavyweight himself) laugh his ass off while interviewing his own comedy icons. Definitely worth the buy.

history of the joke with lewis black
Great approach to the subject. As always, Lewis Black delivers his approach to this subject in his very amusing style. This is a great addition to my Lewis Black collection.

Dororo

An imaginitive Japanese fantasy romp
This story of outcasts, demons, and a power-mongering warlord takes place during Japan's storied Warring States period and has been through manga and anime adaptations in the late 60's (now THAT is old school) but has just now gotten the big screen live-action treatment. 'Bout time. Two sequels are on the way as well so lovers of Asian and fantasy cinema must rejoice! This movie is a lot of fun to watch and although it is uneven at times -especially the special effects- it is highly recommended to fans of the genre.

"Dororo" is the story of a child whose body was sold to demons in exchange for power before his very birth. The monsters divided him up into 48 parts, one for each of them, and left him a featureless stump of a newborn. Unwilling to allow her powermad husband to kill the wretched child, his mother sent him down the river in a basket, Moses-style. He's found by a supernaturally gifted aspiring doctor who has been studying the science of regrowing limbs. He...

Fantasy Adventure: Full of Emotional Complexity
I had no idea when I selected "Dororo" from the Comcast-on-Demand "Free Movie" section that it would become an obsession. It's a very clever combination of elements from the Biblical story of Moses, the Pinocchio fairytale, the classical Frankenstein novel and the Highlander movies. The premise is that Hyakkimaru's father, a powerful warlord, sold 48 of his body parts to 48 demons for power over his enemies before he was even born. A young man now, Hyakkimaru must kill each demon to retrieve his true body. I can truly say that I've never seen a film as bizarre as this and yet with so many emotional layers. This film upon the first viewing will leave you gaping and you'll become mesmerized by the concepts used in the movie.

The director's vision is chock full of issues surrounding abandonment, and the effect of warmongering on children, most specifically our two main characters. In the prelude to the first battle Hyakkimaru has in the movie with a demon, several caged...

A Pleasant Surprise
Let me start off by saying I have never read the original manga this movie is based on so if you are looking to see how accurate this movie is to its source material this review might not be for you.

To put it simply, if you're in the mood for a fantasy film with swords, demons, and a decent storyline look no further than Dororo.

the GOOD:
1. Storyline is entertaining.
2. the acting is solid, slightly campy but, still fun.
3. the last half of the movie (without giving away anything) is where the story really seems to come to life.

the BAD:
1. the special effects are hit and miss. Sometimes they look great and other times they look, well, just bad.
2. some of the monster costumes look like they came straight out of a Power Rangers episode.

Since you're reading this review I assume you're interested in this title anyway so do yourself a favor and pick this one up, you won't regret it.

Dinosaur King: The Adventure Begins

Great for Kids who love dinosaurs
After watching this cartoon on TV, my son wanted a dinosaur themed party for his 4th birthday. We ordered this DVD online from Amazon and the delivery was excellent. The product was excellent as well.
We did have a dinosaur themed birthday party and played this cartoon for kids to watch. Everyone enjoyed it! He still watches it even now.
It is about 3 kids who are part of the D-Team, discover that dinosaurs are still present in the world and they venture our to save them from the evil Alpha gang. The DVD is split up into small episodes. So it is nice for little kids who can watch short cartoons instead of a long movie.

Since he was 2.
My son has watched this program wherever he could find it since he was two years old. This is a good buy for a little boy.

Very happy
My daughter hasn't stopped watching the DVD since she got them. Came in good condition and in a timely manner.

Brothers and Sisters - The Complete Second Season

One of the finest dramas on television! Season Two only gets better...
Brothers & Sisters is truly one of the finest dramas currently on network television. The show's writers embrace current and highly pertinent issues in modern day North America, and work them into the story line of each episode beautifully.

The cast of actors is one of the most talented we have seen to date- Sally Field, Rachel Griffiths, Calista Flockhart, Rob Lowe, Ron Rifkin, and Emily Vancamp are standouts among them all. Field's role as the matriarch of the family is particularly stunning, and her brilliant ability is even further explored in the second season as she is forced to make tough decisions about her life, and is faced with further conflict created by her family. Griffiths provides another extremely compelling performance as Sarah Walker, who is forced to deal with her crumbling marriage.

Throughout the second season, the storylines become more complicated and the Walker family is thrown into a tangled web of turmoil and deception. I would highly...

Heartwarming, smart and well-produced series!
I missed most of Season One when it aired, so I bought the Season One and Season Two DVDs. I could not stop watching! I LOVE this show and Season Two is just as engaging as the first season. The characters are well-developed and the storylines are realistic. Sally Field is absolutely outstanding! A must-watch!

Great Show
Brothers & Sisters is one of the best series on television right now. It depicts a close family, but each person is going through some hardships. No matter what is going on in their lives, they can always count on eachother. The show doesn't paint this family to be the perfect family. They show a reality in its characters that almost anyone could relate to. I would give this season 5 stars, but they are charging the same price that they did for season 1 and due to the writer's strike, there is one less disc.

Killinaskully: Season 1

Good
Probably will be compared with Father Ted, but much more "Irish" humour in it. Nice characters and some nice situations, true to life of small village ireland.

Up the Irish!
Inspired lunacy in the best tradition of brilliantly skewed Irish humor. A must-see for anyone who appreciates the finer points of subversive comedy. For devotees of League of Gentlemen, Little Britain and My Hero. The only problem? This is the ONE available season in the USA. Not good. When I conducted a search to obtain the rest of the series, I was seriously disappointed to discover this glitch. So, too, is the case with My Hero. I want my perverse British/Irish comedy...and I want it now.

Love this stuff
Wish there were more episodes. I'd like to get the rest of the season's of this. Good to watch when I need a laugh.

Two and a Half Men: The Complete Fourth Season

Two adults. One kid. No grown-ups.
It's good to see that Two and a Half Men - The Complete Fourth Season is coming out on DVD, for (in my personal opinion) it's the best and funniest sitcom series of this decade. As a single father, this viewer can find much to relate to... and laugh about.

For those who haven't had the pleasure of seeing this top-rated series on TV, it's about the lives of two brothers, one of the brother's son, and the many people, especially women, who surround them. When his wimpy younger brother Alan Harper (Jon Crier) becomes separated from his wife and moves out of their house, he has to move in with Charlie, his older brother (played by Charlie Sheen). Alan shares custody of his son Jake (Angus T. Jones), who was 10 when the series began and who stays with them part-time. The "half a man" in the title of this sitcom is in reference to the fact that Jake isn't an adult yet.

Charlie Harper is a...

Great series
This is a terrific series. My husband and I started watching it late in the seasons. Now we are catching up. Immoral behavior? You betcha! We have laughed ourselves silly through every vicarious second of it. We just bought the first dvd series of this show and can't wait to watch it from the start. I have been watching series 4 in reruns on tv. I don't know if it is season 4 but my favorite episode is when Charlie becomes the hapless victim and sex slave of a witch's coven. He is saved by his mother who strikes fear into the coven ending the show perfectly dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West. This is not a show for kids, but adults, especially those with and ex or two, or crazy relatives should love it.

Funny With Hot Girls, What Else Do You Need?
If you liked the first three seasons you'll like this one too. More of the same kinds of fun. Sexually suggestive humor and good looking women, sign me up! I thought the kid (Jake/my favorite character) might be getting too old to be as effective, but he still pulls it off for the most part. I think the writers will have to start changing his lines a little in season five. Things that were cute/funny when he was younger might come off as just a rude/disrespectful teenager as he gets older. The only negative so far is I waste too much time watching tv when this is on or in the dvd player.

The Godfather Collection (The Coppola Restoration) [Blu-ray]

The New Restoration Collection does not disappoint!
The new transfers for The Godfather Parts I and II are stunning. It really is like seeing them for the first time. All of the murky, faded colors have been restored to their original glory while still retaining the warmth of the film stock. Gordon Willis' then-controversial cinematography can finally be seen they way it was intended on these new discs. If you have the original box set, it is worth it to double dip if only for the restoration job on these two films.

Carried over from the original set are all of Francis Ford Coppola's commentary tracks for the three films. On The Godfather one, he appropriately enough, starts off by talking about the film's famous opening scene and how it was supposed to start with the wedding but a friend suggested he do something else. Coppola talks about how he organized the elaborate wedding sequence and shot it only 2-3 days! He talks about the pressure he was under by the studio and in read danger of being fired because they didn't like...

A faithful restoration of the originals
For those crying for the "Godfather Saga"/"Godfather Epic" versions, you are missing the point. Restoration expert Robert Harris (and countless others) worked for over a year from the best available print materials (as the original negatives are badly damaged and faded) to restore the first and second films to their original theatrical glory, which is something these iconic films of American Cinema deserve. That is the point of restoration.

If you are looking for a "wow" disc to show off your Blu-ray home theater sound and video, this is not it. If you are looking to experience modern American Gangster cinema in its 1970's glory, this is as close as you are ever likely to get, muted sepia-esque color, film grain and all.

These were not done exclusively for the home market. The priority was that they were restored for theatres, because that is where they would be judged the most critically, and all indications are that they do not disappoint. Never watch...

If there was ever an offer you couldn't refuse, it's this!
Francis Ford Coppola and Paramount Home Entertainment held a press conference and street fair in Brooklyn, and yours truly was there! The exciting news, of course, was announcing the release of THE GODFATHER DVD COLLECTION on October 9, 2001! If the preview of the set is any indication, then I must say this will be the crown jewel in any DVD collection!

The three films will only be released together in this set. The Godfather and The Godfather Part III will each be on one disc, and The Godfather Part II will take two discs. The first of the good news? Francis Coppola has recorded full-lenth audio commentaries for all three films!

But wait, there's a fifth disc that will blow your socks off! Check this out -- the bonus disc contains 3+ hours worth of special features, including: > "The Godfather Family: A Look Inside" documentary > "Francis Coppola's Notebook", an inside look at taking the book to screen! > "On Location" with production...

The Anderson Tapes

Tape Measure
The Anderson Tapes conspicuously mentioned in this film's title are very peripheral to the film's plot. Instead we have a brilliant `caper film' set in a New York City townhouse in early 1971. The images are still memorable of a balding Sean Connery as the leader and brains behind the heist. And who can forget that stoic and peculiar looking member of Connery's team, Christopher Walken in his first film. What an impression he made. This film still looks current even today. This is a real suspenseful film full of great characterizations. A good one!

Tape Worm
Sean Connery turns in an excellent and memorable performance in this excellent thriller competently acted, well scripted and neatly directed about a heist where everything is not what it appears to be. This film is full of great characters and suspense. Quincy Jones composed a great score. Look for Christopher Walken's distinctive face in his film debut. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Sean Connery's Best
As thriller,"Anderson Tapes"is average. However as theater - an ensemble piece - it's an American classic. Sean's best role: a likeable guy out of jail after staying quiet for ten years on behalf of the mob. They owe him a favor (small potatoes)which is the problem (they now prefer big business - linen service, construction, etc.). Ultimately they stake Connery and his magnificent raggedy crew to pull a major burglary (Sean's retirement). Meanwhile the FBI (in search of bigger fish) monitors Connery's ensuing bad luck like an indifferent god.

It would have been good to spend more time on some of the other Cowboy greats. Perhaps span the history over several DVDs.

For Cowboy Fans
Got this for my husband. Truly enjoyed it since it covers the team history well..second DVD gives highlights of 1980 division playoff game, and has great extra content too; including a interview with The Triplets!!

Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King

Best animated Scooby Doo movie
First Review by Kayla and JJ (ages 6 and 7):
We really loved this movie. We have seen a lot of the Scooby Doo movies and all of the cartoons, and we think this was the best animated Scooby Doo movie so far. We give this movie 5 stars.
This movie is a little scarier than most other Scooby Doo movies, so kids under 6 years old might be afraid.
The movie had a lot of action and a good story. While the rest of the gang was not in as much of the movie, they did appear in the movie, so it wasn't just Scooby Doo and Shaggy like some other movies. We like to see the entire gang in the movies and cartoons.

Thank you for reading our first review.
Kayla and JJ

Another great Scooby movie
My three year old is obsessed with Scooby Doo. He has been since he was about a year old. We have just about every movie we could find, and the TV series on DVD. He particularly loves this movie, especially since it has a Halloween theme, which is another obsession of his.

There are so many big names attached to this one, and the story is really cute. The only thing that knocks off a star is that Fred, Velma, and Daphne are hardly in it. We like to see the whole Scooby gang together, but this one only has them in it for the first and last few minutes.

EPIC SCOOB!!!!
Out of the bunch of Scooby Doo movies that have come out on DVD in the last decade, this is easily my favorite (although, I can't lie, they all have their merits...) This has one of the most complex Scooby Doo plots of all time... and features real ghosts and spooks, as opposed to the usual "Old Mr. Jenkins in a mask" type scenarios.

Casey Casem is on board as shaggy, always a nice treat, as he does a percentage of Scooby Doo's these days, but not all. Theres other great voice work here as well, like Wayne Knight and Jay Leno in strong supporting roles.

Now lets run it down. This one is jam packed with a slew of Halloween treats. The ghost train comes in early to transport Scoob and Shaggy to the land of Halloween. The Ghost train scene is very well done... shortly after we arrive at the Ghost Saloon, and meet The Headless Horseman. Eventually the plot comes to a hilt, when the fairies, goblins, and other monsters all meet up in the real world (as is predicted...

Harry the Dirty Dog... and More Playful Puppy Stories (Scholastic Storybook Treasures)

Harry, Gloria and Angus
This DVD has three wonderful dog stories as well as three bonus stories.

Harry the Dirty Dog is about a small white dog with black spots. One day he get so dirty that he becomes a black dog with white spots and finally agrees to a bath. Nicely done and narrated. Very close to the original story.

Officer Buckle and Gloria is about a safety conscious police man who finally manages to get his message across with the help of the talented police dog Gloria. John Lithgow dos a great job with this one. The story includes a scene of Officer Buckle testing Gloria's training. Otherwise it is right on with the book.

Angus and the Ducks is about a curious Scottie who finally finds out what is making the quackity quack noises on the other side of the hedge. This one is live action and includes Angus with his siblings and being taken to his new home, walks in the park and other small differences from the original book.

The Beast of Monsieur Racine is about a champion pear-grower who...

WONDERFUL tool for enhancing, enriching reading for tots!!
My son (just-turned-three) and I had just picked up Harry the Dirty Dog from the library when my mom purchased this video for us. It is a WONDERFUL, magical way to enhance the reading experience! The video animation is a direct copy of the book's illustrations--so it really feels like the illustrations have magically sprung to life. My son and I cuddled up in bed together with the book before bedtime, reading and watching simultaneously. My son LOVED it so much that we bought the other books featured on the video and have made this a regular bedtime ritual.
The narrations are first-rate and slowly paced so that you can easily read along and turn pages as you watch.
I highly recommend this and the other video (the one with Good Night Gorilla, which is just as excellent) to any parent or educator in search of a way to enhance and enrich a child's reading experience. Research has shown that children who hear words and see them at the same time can improve their reading...

Great DVD for your little ones
This DVD is a read-along, gently animated package with six stories: two are Harry the Dirty Dog stories, but the surprise discoveries were a great Canadian-produced story "I want a dog" about a girl named May who wants a dog more than anything and the lengths she will go to in order to convince her parents, and "Dot the Fire Dog" about a dalmatian and fire safety. Just enthralling for my 3.5 y.o.

Bottom line: Come for the Harry the Dirty Dog, stay for the rest!

Schoolhouse Rock: Election Collection

Gimmick for election year
Just get the 30th Anniversary Edition of Schoolhouse Rock instead of this one. This "Election Collection" only sports 14 songs from the 40+ classics that were made back in the day of educating children through Saturday morning cartoon shorts. The songs they do pick are of course themed for electoral stuff so you definitely will get classics like "I'm Just a Bill" as well as government/patriotic related stuff like "Shot Heard Around the World." While you do get a brand-new exclusive song, "Presidential Minute", you are shortchanging yourself considering the 30th Anniversary Edition is only a few dollars more and give you almost four times the content.

Another interesting snippet in the Election Collection includes an election tracking kit so your little ones can follow the upcoming election using stickers and stuff. So if you really want your kid to get into the election process I suppose that may make it worth it. Also the DVD has an english 5.1 dolby track and a spanish...

CSI: NY - The Fourth Season

The Best Show
CSI New York: The Fourth Season is my favorite show except for the writers strike that made only 21 episodes this year but, it is sill the best season of all.

The series CONTINUES to be great
I have really enjoyed all the seasons of this CSI break off. It has become a total unique show in and of itself. Each year, the science becomes more amazing, the characters so unique and believable, and the episodes still "edge-of-your-seat"-ers. The relationship between the characters is continually developing and interesting. Gary Sinise is so soft-spoken, yet tough, and encourages a comfortable relationship among the cast. I have watched many various CSI dramas, and this one is still staying fresh and exciting.

A good run
This iteration of CSI NY is gripping, in part because of the use of several plots that run throughout several episodes of the season. The Taxicab Killer is one and a very good one too. Not so great, in my opinion, was the subplot about the forensic tech and the aftermath of a shooting and how it affects his personal life. It just seemed like it was starting to get too much like a soap opera.

More great writing made these programs first-class. So far these episodes have never disappointed me.

Standard Operating Procedure (+ BD Live) [Blu-ray]

SOP Obscures The Truth
Representatives for film director Errol Morris told me during pre-production that "Standard Operating Procedure" would be the very best documentary on the abuses of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib - the one that would tell the whole truth.

I had pinned great hope on that. It didn't turn out that way.

My perspective on the Abu Ghraib scandal came from spending from September 2003 to February 2004 at the Iraq prison as a sergeant in Army Intelligence. Working the 8 p.m.-to- 8 a.m. night shift, it was impossible not to notice who was directing the operation. And I shared all this with Morris.

But now I've seen the film and I'm disappointed. Morris does little to get to the bottom of what happened. He muddies already opaque waters regarding who was actually responsible for the abuse of prisoners.

The film focuses on the awful photos, the people in them and those who took them. This perspective plays right into the hands of the cover-up artists. It...

Important Exposure, Necessary Information
As is obvious in the complex responses to both the book and the film by Errol Morris and Philip Gourevitch, STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE places in our faces some facts we would rather shield than discuss. The story of the period of between September 2003 and February 2004 at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq is so well known not only from the news media but also from the Internet blogging sites that it need not be outlined in a review of this film. The facts documented by photographs taken by those who participated and observed the inhuman treatment of prisoners are indisputable: seeing them on the screen in full frame and in close-up shots is almost more than the compassionate eye can tolerate. But there it is and yes, we do need to witness the abuse and humiliation that describes the US prisoner treatment in Iraq, no matter who is to blame - enlisted personnel, MI, high ranking military officials, the White House. The fact that it occurred as such a gross abuse of human rights...

It's easier to theorize about human behavior than it is to look at it
Reviewer "From Hades" spends 1,620 words supporting a thesis that can be stated in a sentence: The civilian interrogators were responsible for Abu Ghraib, and this film is flawed because it doesn't suggest that.

The reviewer makes clear that he believes the film spends too much time "humanizing" the military personnel when instead it should have been placing blame. He wanted the film to single out the civilian interrogators as the responsible persons so that, I guess, we can wipe our hands and move on.

It's distressing that his is the top-rated review because he is doing the precise thing that the film magnifies to absurdity: Telling the simple story, reaching the simple conclusion, identifying the "bad guys," and being satisfied with your tidy little explanation.

It's easier to theorize about human behavior than it is to look at it.

It's easy to look at the photos from Abu Ghraib and construct stories. A social psychologist might say that...

Speed & Angels (DVD + Game) [Blu-ray]

Fantastic Doc!
I saw this film in the theater last year and found it a fascinating look inside the world of ariel dogfighting. The cinematography and the flying scenes were fantastically shot and exhillerating to watch. But what made the film resonate with me (to the point where is still sticks in my head a year later) were the incredibly personal stories of the pilots in training.

It's also very timely, with our nation at war -- and I appreciated it being slanted neither jingoistic or politically anti-war. Make no mistake, this is a film about a dying art form and the people who (quite literally) are willing to die for it.

If you have an interest in flying, the military, or even just an exceptionally well made documentary, Speed & Angels is well worth a look.

Top notch
I had the chance to see this film a few weeks ago, and it is by far the best documentary on Navy pilots ever put out there. Peyton Wilson is a very talented director who not only shoots fantastic arial scenes, but also achieves a closeness with her characters that is nothing short of amazing. A must see.

An amazing human interest story
Speed and Angels is an amazing human interest story about the dedication and perseverance required to achieve your dreams. While the aerial and cockpit scenes are breathtaking, the real power behind this film is in the stories of Jay and Meagan and their unwillingness to settle for anything less than fulfilling their lifelong ambitions. You truly get to know these young pilots and will find yourself rooting for them to succeed. A really great documentary delivered with a personal, unbiased and honest touch.

New York Yankees: Essential Games of Yankee Stadium (Steelbook Packaging)

Can't say that these would be MY choices:

1976 ALCS GAME 5 VS. KANSAS CITY ROYALS: Chris Chambliss' walk-off HR sends the Yankees to their first World Series since 1964.

1977 WORLD SERIES GAME 6 VS. LOS ANGELES DODGERS: "Mr. October" Reggie Jackson's historic three home run-game propels the Bronx Bombers to another World Series Championship. (Also available with 1977 World Series Set)

1995 ALDS GAME 2 VS. SEATTLE MARINERS: This 15-inning drama ended with Jim Leyritz's walk-off home run and featured home runs from Don Mattingly, Paul O'Neill, and Ruben Sierra. WIth 3 &1/3 innings in relief a young Mariano Rivera notched the win.

Best games in Yankee Stadium, but two of the games are already on DVD
Great games from the Stadium, quility is great and the special features are ok. Bottom line, I would replace the Mr. November game and Mr. October game since those games are already on DVD. But it's a "Must have" if your a yankee fan.

Great DVD Set!!!
This is a great set celebrating the greatest Yankees games in historic Yankee Stadium. Just being able to have "Donnie Baseball's" last game at the Stadium is awesome. What a game that was... The 1995 Division Series vs. Seattle where he hit .417 and who can forget the incredible two games of the 2001 WS vs. Arizona. Game 4 is here experience all the magic again from that night when Tino Martinez homers with two out in the ninth and Jeter wins it with his November magic. Reggie's three HR game from 1977 is also here as is Chris Chambliss' HR to win the 1976 pennant. If you're a true blue Yankee fan as myself this 6-disc set is for you. YANKEE STADIUM FOREVER!!!

The Green Ooze!
Here is another Goosebumps DVD release. This time we get Monster Blood 1 (1996), More Monster Blood (1996), How To Kill a Monster (1996) and The Girl Who Cried Monster (1996).

Gretchen and Clark are visiting their strange grandparents in How to Kill a Monster. They are warned not to go upstairs, but being kids, they don't listen and they end up unleashing a monster.

Lucy is a storyteller, especially stories about monsters, but when she encounters a real monster, the school's librarian Mr. Mortman, no one believes her as they think it is just one of her stories.

These Goosebumps episodes have low-budget special effects, bad acting, and a cut-down scripts based on the books by R.L. Stine.

The Third Jihad: Radical Islam's Vision for America

The Best Introduction to America's Theat from Islamic Supremacism
America and the Western civilization have a big problem--the rising tide of Islamic supremacism. This is not just a problem in Islamic countries, it is a huge problem right here in the good old USA. Islamic apoligists will dis this DVD because they don't want you or your loved ones to see it. The best part is the narrator is a moderate Muslim who sounds the alarm for all freedom loving people to take immediate action. We must roll back the progress Islamofascists are making at sabotaging America by using our own liberal laws and political processes. Like the Nazis, the communists and the Ku Klux Clan, Islamic Supremacists believe it is their destiny to conquer and rule the world. And they are working hard to fulfill this anti-democratic goal. See this movie and then read Because They Hate: A Survivor of Islamic Terror Warns America. Join ACT! for America the world's largest and most effective grass-roots,...

Should Be Required Viewing for Every American!
"The Third Jihad" is a crucial documentary for for future of democracy and western civilation. Narrated by Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a Muslim who reveres both his faith and the United States (his adopted homeland), this cannot be construed as an anti-Muslim work; rather, it is anti-RADICAL Muslim. Drawing upon interviews with those fighting on both sides of the war on terrorism gives this inspiring work passion and credibility. I have purchased a number of copies and am distributing them to school and local libraries. It's that important!

Just when you thought you knew how bad things are...
It turns out they are much worse. This movie deals with the facts of the well funded and organized 'soft' as well as hard Jihad within the United States. Frankly it's a must see. More, it's a must show your family friends and anyone who will sit still long enough and I promise you, if they sit for the first 10 minutes they will stay for the rest.
The sources are unimpeachable and they speak from academic expertise or personal experience such as Ayaan Hirsi Ali who is featured prominently in this movie as well as many other Muslims and those of Muslim origins.
Get this film the moment you are able and get ready for a disurbing and eye opening experience.

Goosebumbs One Day at Horrorland DVD
I Bought this DVD for my 10 year old daughter who is a big goosebumbs fan. One Day at Horrorland was her favorite book, she really enjoyed the movie although it left out alot of the main story. Still very enjoyable. I would recommend for any goosebumbs fans.

Lovejoy: Christmas Specials

To Buy or Not to Buy. That Is The Question.
I have enjoyed the Lovejoy series since it originally aired in the early 90's. I and the family were stationed in East Anglia in England where most of the Lovejoy episodes were filmed; it was fun to watch the show on BBC then to spend the weekends visiting the historic villages and other places we had seen on Lovejoy. So as a Lovejoy fan and being homesick for the beauties and wonders of East Anglia the Lovejoy DVD's are a treat loved by the entire family.
Now for the Cons: (Not criticizing the series just the quality and manner it is being released.)
The DVD is not worth the $17.00 + S&H. Come on... It should not have been released as a standalone DVD? The two special episodes should have been left as part of the normal DVD series box sets. It makes no sense to break the timeline of the series in this way.
Now I find that the Complete Season 4 DVD is set to release 4 months from now. Why so long? The Lovejoy series ended over 10 years ago. The entire series has been...

2 Special Episodes
Since most British TV series only produce 6-12 episodes a year, popular TV shows produce special Christmas episodes. Lovejoy had two special double length episodes.

The Prague Sun (1992) - Lovejoy is alone for Christmas. But when a friend is attacked, Lovejoy and Eric are off to Prague on a treasure hunt. And Lady Jane shows up to help out. Guest Donald Pleasance and Peter Vaughn.

The Lost Colony (1993) - Lovejoy has relatives from America visit. But when some Sir Walter Raliegh antiques disappear, Lovejoy has to go to Carolina. But when he gets into trouble, his new love interest Caroline comes to his rescue. Guests Barbara Barrie, Ken Kercheval and John Gielguld.

Lovejoy was an iconoclastic series in England and had a strong following in America. The show was uniformly excellent. The Prague Sun is definitely the better of the two episodes.

The one thing to be careful is that these episodes do not appear on another series DVD set...

Preaching to the choir!
I would assume that most buying this DVD are fans of Lovejoy, and that they were on pins and needles waiting for the Christmas Special release along with upcoming season 4. This was an extrodinary show, that needs no vamping by me. If you are a true fan of the Lovejoy series, just be happy that they continue to release the episodes and seasons that made us happy. Enjoy

The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour: The Best of Season 3

Season 3 is the first of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour dvd sets!
As everyone is asking, "Where are The Best of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour Seasons 1 and 2?" I spoke directly to a Smothers Brothers rep and here's what I found out. There have been delays in producing the best of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour dvd sets due to reasons unknown. I would guess that the reasons have something to do with getting all the approvals needed by the numerous guests on the shows, that is the cause of delay. Even this Season 3 is a few weeks behind schedule.

When I asked about certain musical groups appearing on this Season 3, I was happily told that The Who will not be on Season 3, but will be appearing on Season 2, which is right now in the making! I was so happy to hear that they are currently working on Season 2! This Season 2 will contain the famous performance by The Who, when Keith Moon used too many explosives and blew out poor Pete Townsend's eardrum!

Even though all 3 Seasons are being released backwards, starting with...

better than nothing.....but not very good
Have waited so long for this to be released and what a disappointment!
How ironic that the Smothers Brothers who faught with censors are now censoring what they release to us! I'm glad they came out with this set. But most of the episodes were about 40 minutes. These are NOT the full episodes as aired. The booklet insert talks about the first David Steinberg sermonette - the controversial one. Then it's mentioned on one of the shows when Tommy apologizes for it....but it's not included here!! We are given the second, calmer sermonette entitled "Jonah"(which of course is good). On one of these episodes, the band comes out in the beginning of the show with the signs naming that night's guests. They list Leigh French and she only appears for about 2 minutes in a very quick comedy sketch. She's not listed in the menu of the disc as a guest for that show at all. Surely she was in more of that episode than that! They did leave her in one as the weather girl, so it can't be a...

I am loving this set... but, uncut??
I wasn't even born when this show was originally on CBS. But I have been a fan of the Smothers Brothers for a long time, starting back in 1988 when they had a short-lived revival of their variety show. Having just purchased this 4-disc set (the Amazon.com information incorrectly lists it as having 3 discs), I have to say that I am really enjoying the show.

However, I have to wonder about the claims of all 11 episodes being uncut. I have only watched the first disc so far and am already noticing what I think are some cuts from the original broadcast versions. It would appear that these episodes are taken from a "Best Of" series that Entertainment Television did back in 1992. Each episode (so far) has an introduction and epilogue by Tom and Dick Smothers. In one of the episodes there are scenes shown during the epilogue from the 'Daily News' segment that were not in the episode I just watched.

I also have to wonder about the run time for each episode. If you take...

Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan

I can't vouch for the historical accuracy...
...but considering the minimal budget (20 million dollars American) and the genuine Mongolian (some areas so isolated that new roads had to be built to get the film crews there) locations filmed, this was a fantastic movie that was well-paced for an introduction to the life of Temudjin, who would become the Genghis Khan.

Despite the low budget, nothing in the movie looks cheaply filmed; everything looks like that of a big budget film six times more expensive, from costumes to makeup (and the craggly dirt buildup on Temudjin during his time in captivity). I don't speak Mongolian, so I can't tell whether the accents spoken are accurately Mongolian, but for an American audience, it was great for authenticity (rather than having them speak Russian or Kazakh).

The movie excels in two particular aspects which really make this one more than just a casual ancient-world flick; the battles and the people.

While Genghis Khan is demonized in the West as a...

"Do Not Scorn a Weak Cub..."
Recent Best Foreign Oscar Film nominee `Mongol' is an impressive epic. Telling the first installment of the life and times of Ghengis Khan, we get more than a history lesson, but a personal account of a fraternal feud for power. Filmed with breathtaking cinematography and a sound that should have garnered a separate nomination, the movie is a sweeping drama, complete with battles that make similar `300' scenes obvious digitalized formula.

Although the film goes ahead (mostly in chronological order) with several "One Year Later" and other useful captions, we lose ourselves in a story of one man's struggle for survival among his Khan and the love interests that shape, bind and beget tribal rivalries and aspirations. We follow the coming-of-age footsteps of Temujin (Tadanobu Asano) and his older rival Targutai (Amandu Mamadakov) who both strive for power and read the oracles of gods like Tengri, whom they beckon for help.

Some of the battles are Trojan-like in...

Excellent Flick!
To say this movie is a historical documentary failure would be a shame. What it was to me was a film that was entertaining to watch, with an epic story that got you into the charactors. The cinematography was huge, with beautiful wide shots.
I went to the theater to see this flick not knowing much about it, and I looked at the audience from time to time, one gentlemen was on the edge of his seat! This movie was far better than any other movie about Khan that I've ever seen (including John Waynes). Nobody seems to care that other actors have played Ghenghis throughout the ages, which is to say that I don't know why people are upset a Japanese actor played the role. I thought he did an outstanding job.
I have recommended this film to friends, which typically I don't do and have'nt done in a long time.
I don't know if the DVD will have over-dubs, but the sub-titles were very easy to read in the theater.
I'm giving this movie 5 stars cause it's like an Asian version...
